BRIEF HISTORY

Tirap means “safe haven”

Tirap Youth Trust(TYT) formally Ogiek Youth Council(OYC) is an association of Indigenous Ogiek youth drawn from six counties inhabited by Ogiek in Kenya, namely Baringo, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Narok, and Kericho.
TYT was founded in 2019 and registered in 2022 as an association. It was formed by a group of youth with an aim to provide a platform for empowering, mentoring, and championing the rights of Indigenous Ogiek youth.

Objectives

  1. Promote the recognition and identity of indigenous peoples’ culture
  2. Uniting the Ogiek Youth and bringing them together
  3. Gender and Youth Empowerment
  4. Championing for land and natural resources rights.
  5. Environmental Protection
